Possible Worlds presents the first in our PW Graphic Art Meetups, mixing artist talks with networking, resource sharing and micro projects.
In this first Graphic Art Meetup, we’ll focus on visual storytelling - from zines to graphic novels - exploring how approaches to storytelling change when narrative is brought into a visual field.
The first part of the Meetup will feature artist talks by emerging Ottawa-based artists Abigail Kashul and Rachel Gray. Abigail, co-organizer of the Ottawa Zine Off, will discuss her own zine work as well as the origin of zine culture and its political and social relevance today. Rachel will discuss the potential of the graphic novel form, and will share learnings from the process of creating her own illustrated book, Jess.
The second part of the Meetup will feature a hands-on micro project led by Abigail and Rachel. Participants will be encouraged to explore their own voice in the creation of a 6-page zine. Information about how to assemble, reproduce and share their completed zine work will also be provided.
