WORKSHOP INFO

Join us for this introduction to clay workshop with guest artist, Ayesh Kanani.

You’ll learn the basics of building a clay vessel and apply surface design techniques. There will be guided instruction along with time to experiment and play with your own style. Participants will come away with a kiln-fired hand decorated mug 2-3 weeks after the workshop, and knowledge to continue making more clay vessels. Experimentation with clay and personal style is highly encouraged!

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Ideal for any level, including beginners, those who want a refresher, those looking to experiment, or creatives who would like to add a new skill to their current skill set. The tutorial will be at an introductory level, but participants with clay experience are welcome to take part.

ARTIST FACILITATOR

Ayesh Kanani has a growing a personal practice that allows them to study materials, explore important histories, and be a part of creating new possibilities with clay. They are passionate about building a clay practice that is slow and intentional and grounded in building better access. Their work is informed by their lived experiences as a queer person of colour and their work background in LGBTQ+ advocacy work and disability arts. They have been learning through open studio practice, taking classes, exploring mentorship, and developing new work. Over the years they have been growing their skills and taking on bigger projects.

WORKSHOP FEE

To make this workshop as accessible as possible and to increase opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the arts, we're offering different options of participation fees. The amount you choose to pay goes to our facilitators and operating the space.

Option 1: $85 CAD

  • Access to the full in-person workshop

  • All required tools and materials will be provided for use at the workshop

  • Your own hand- decorated, kiln-fired pinch pot mug

  • Knowledge of how to create clay forms

  • PDF of Clay at Home Mini-Guide, including step-by-step instructions, tips & tricks, list of materials, and other resources.

Option 2: $60 CAD (Equity -Deserving Group)

We are offering a reduced rate for 3 spots to those who self-identify as Indigenous, Black, Asian or a person of colour; or as a person with disabilities; or as two-spirit, transgender or gender non-conforming.
