WORKSHOP: Expressive Typography: DIY Lettering Design

WORKSHOP INFO

In this 2-hour workshop with graphic designer and illustrator Robin Richardson-Dupuis, learn how to create personal letterforms that can be used in your own graphic art such as posters, book covers and prints. This workshop is given as part of Richardson-Dupuis’ show at Possible Worlds, Everything is Constantly Changing.

Whether or not you realize it, all letterforms embody some form of personal expression. In this workshop, we’re going to play with this idea to create an expressive, experimental typographic work.

We will cover a brief intro to typography, basic type guidelines, and choosing and pairing fonts. Once we have a general idea of established typography rules, we’re going to bend and/or break them! We’ll learn how to manipulate fonts in Adobe Illustrator to make them expressive and distinctive.

Lastly, we’ll each create our own typographic poster, working through the process of layout, type manipulation, and adding finishing touches.
