WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Are you interested in learning how to play vinyl from a DJ perspective? What’s all the equipment involved? Want to know how to put together your own DJ setup with turntables at home?
Possible Worlds presents a fun introductory group workshop to explore the basics of DJing. Join PW Co-Director Jason Skilz to learn about equipment, techniques, programming and the roots of DJ culture, then apply your new knowledge on the decks.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Open to all, no experience needed. Spaces are limited to 6 people to ensure you personally get the technique right.

An overview of the roots of DJ culture
Essential equipment for DJing (turntables, DJ mixer, headphones and speakers) and how to use each
Beat matching, tempo control, mixing tracks, playing with sound
Programming and selection of tracks
Blending your first 1-2 songs on the decks.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
Musicians, vinyl lovers, artists and creatives who want to learn about DJing and the equipment involved, or those wanting to learn a new skill to add to their music arsenal.
WORKSHOP FEE
To make this workshop as accessible as possible and to increase opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the arts, we're offering different options of participation fees. The amount you choose to pay goes to our facilitators and operating the space.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
DJ Jason Skilz runs the Low Noise Productions and Spins & Needles record labels, as well as co-founded/co-directs Possible Worlds. He curates the vinyl shop portion of PW, and has been spinning and collecting records for over 20 years.
A DJ since the early 90s, Jason has techno releases on Low Noise Productions (Canada) and Euphemia (Italy) as Transmit, and house releases on Spins & Needles, OXO (Swiss), Dustpan (Singapore), LW Recordings (UK), Chicago House FM (USA), Caliber Sounds (AUS), Modern Revival (Germany).
Jason has DJed events in Canada, US, UK, Europe and Asia, including music and art festivals in Amsterdam (ADE 2014), Berlin (2015), Miami (WMC 2015), Chicago and San Francisco.

Possible Worlds is located on the main floor (one story above ground) of the Arts Court building. Wheelchair accessible entrances are located at at 67 Nicholas Street and 10 Daly Avenue. The nearest elevator is located 30 metres from the 67 Nicholas Street entrance. All doors have accessibility buttons to press for automatic entry.
