WORKSHOP INFO

Join us for this introduction to abstract painting with guest artist, Andrea Stokes.

Play with shape, form, texture, colour and line to create your own designs and compositions with gouache paint. Learn about colour-theory and mixing, and experiment with transparency and opacity to achieve unique effects. Try different mark making methods and tools, many of which can be found in your own home. Take away your own unique artworks, and the knowledge and materials to start abstract painting on your own.

All materials will be provided and are included in the workshop fee.

Length: 2.5 hours

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Ideal for any level: beginners, those who want a refresher, or creatives who would like to add a new skill to their current skill set. Participants with painting experience are welcome to take part.

  • Essentials for abstract painting, including how to work with gouache.

  • An understanding of design and composition in abstract painting.

  • Your own paintings on quality art paper.

  • Your own mini-kit with essentials for gouache painting, including ACRYLA paints.

ARTIST FACILITATOR

Andrea Stokes is an Ottawa-based artist, who has been working and teaching for 15 years. You can find examples of her work at @andreastokesart on Instagram or on her website www.andreastokesart.com.

WORKSHOP FEE

To make this workshop as accessible as possible and to increase opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the arts, we're offering different options of participation fees. The amount you choose to pay goes to our facilitators and operating the space.

Option 1: $90 CAD

  • Access to the full in-person workshop.

  • Your own gouache paintings on quality art paper.

  • A gouache painting mini-kit, with ACRYLA paints.

  • Handout on abstract painting basics.

Option 2: $65 CAD (Equity -Deserving Group)

We are offering a reduced rate for 2 spots to those who self-identify as Indigenous, Black, Asian or a person of colour; or as a person with disabilities; or as two-spirit, transgender or gender non-conforming.

  • Access to the full in-person workshop.

  • Your own gouache paintings on quality art paper.

  • A gouache painting mini-kit, with ACRYLA paints.

  • Handout on abstract painting basics.


NEXT STEPS

  • After you register, you'll get an email confirming your payment and therefore your registration.

Limited to 10 people maximum per workshop. Participants must remain masked during the entire workshop. Please bring your own mask.
