Led by Ottawa-based photographer and collage artist Kristina Corre, whose exhbition Small Worlds is currently on view at The Manx, and whose curated collage show Improbable Treasures is part of Chinatown Remixed.
This workshop will encourage participants to explore an elegant, minimalist approach to the art of collage. Kristina will present the principles and elements of design and composition to build narratives from disparate elements. Participants will learn about the basic tools, techniques, materials and image sources she and other collage artists use. We will then carefully collect, cut, and compose various ephemera (National Geographics, free catalogs, architecture, gardening magazines, and more), to create our own minimalist collage stories, ready for hanging.
Participant will each take home up to 3 complete works on coldpressed fine art paper. All materials will be provided.
Kristina will also give an overview of the possibilities for collage beyond the materials provided in this introductory workshop, particularly regarding how collages can be blown up to create larger scale works, including wheatpaste murals.
All materials will be provided.
Kristina Corre is an Ottawa-based artist and photographer who graduated with her M.Arch from Carleton in 2012. Architecture school taught her importance of narratives in image making and meticulousness in her craft. These two incredibly important lessons are currently driving her latest explorations with handcut collage.
