DESCRIPTION
Possible Worlds presents Portraits and Other Stories: an analog cut and paste workshop with collage artist Kristina Corre.
This workshop will encourage participants to explore Kristina's elegant, minimalist approach to the art of collage. Along with her own techniques, creative process, and influences, Kristina will present the principles and elements of design and how to use these tools of composition to build up narratives and powerful portrait images from disparate parts.
Participants will collect images from Kristina's stash of National Geographics, free catalogs, architecture, gardening magazines, and more(!) then carefully cut, compose, and paste their findings to create minimalist collage stories. Kristina will also introduce a the technique of embroidery on paper as an additional graphic element to collage.
By the end of the evening each participant will take home up to 3 complete works on 11x14” coldpressed fine art paper.
Participants are encouraged to bring a printout (up to 5x7”) of someone they would like to create a portrait with. All other materials will be provided.
BIOGRAPHY
Kristina Corre is an Ottawa-based artist and photographer who graduated with her M.Arch from Carleton in 2012. Architecture school taught her importance of narratives in image making and meticulousness in her craft. These two incredibly important lessons are currently driving her latest explorations into her Filipina identity with handcut collage.
